Our Story

Our whole house seems to have become a studio.

Maria & Chris

Maria and Chris met in HIgh School in Toronto, Ontario, at Humberside Collegiate. They became a couple when Chris was at York University and Maria was at The Ontario College of Art, (now OCAD University). Shortly after, they married and had 2 beautiful boys, now adult men.

  Maria graduated from OCAD with a Scholarship in 1989. She worked in her mother's Nursery School with 2 and a half to four year old children. The High Park Nursery School was eventually passed on to Maria when her mother, Patricia Canham, retired. The school evolved into a children's art school called The Artful Child that operated in the Junction in Toronto and then in Roncesvalles. The Artful Child is now run by Jessica Borowets and has a new, second location in Rosedale.

  Chris graduated from York University in 1990 with a BA in psychology. He has many years experience working with children in schools, as well as coming from a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Chris also completed Teacher's Effectiveness Training at Humber Collegiate in Toronto.

  Maria and Chris moved to the friendly community of  Thorold in 2019.
