Our History
The Children's Art/Play Studio has evolved from The High Park Nursery School opening in Toronto in the early 1960's. It was opened by Irene Atkinson, The Chairman of the Board for the Toronto District School Board, in St. John's Church, across from Humberside Collegiate. Patricia Canham bought the school and put all her knowledge and care into it until 2001. In 2001, Patricia retired and passed the school on to Maria, who founded The Artful Child which she operated until 2016. Jessica Borowets now runs The Artful Child beautifully in Toronto. The Children's Art/Play Studio is run by Maria in St John's Church in Thorold - a situation that feels very "full-circle".
