The Importance of Art for children

Free exploration of art materials allows children to be introspective and follow their own ideas, rather than being told what to create by an adult. This is valuable because it gives them time to think about what they value, builds their confidence and  allows them time to be aware of what they are feeling. Curiosity and joy are the foundation of learning; just as self- expression and emotional regulation are important for socialization and personality development.

We would like to offer young children a place to play freely with various art materials. We have painting easels; a sculpture table for glue, wood and other 3- dimensional materials; a print-making table; a dough table with rolling pins, flour and various objects; a block area and a book area. Children are free to move between areas and learn to take initiative, to choose their play and take pride in their creations. They learn to express themselves and to feel independent.
